Loved staying in Berkeley. The guys at the visitors centre were fabulous with their recommendations. Close enough to get into San Francisco easily, but small enough that the locals are approachable, friendly and helpful. The University is totally amazing. We spent a whole day at the Uni & were lucky enough to be at the top of the bell tower for a playing of the bells. What a privilege.

😃 There used to be signs around town saying “Keep Berkeley Weird,” but this movement seems to have failed. It still has a college town feel, but you’re going to find almost as many straight-laced business majors as far-out hippies these days.

Nevertheless, there is wonderful food, good bookstores, and a special atmosphere that is not present in most other college towns. Berkeley is very pricey. Some parts are nice but I found homelessness to be an issue generally in Berkeley and San Francisco, particularly since American image is that it is one of the richest and powerful nations. Seeing so much poverty and homelessness puts it in the same league as a third world country. On the plus side getting around was easy.

Places to eat provided more vegetarian options compared to rest of America. The city is clean, well arranged, secure to walk even at night, good landscape and has easy transportation system. However, you have to prepare exact amount of cash if you are planning to use public transportation as they do not provide changes. Plan your trip ahead using google map so that you know what direction and transportation you must take.

Food is everywhere. You can find various kinds of foods. Mexican, Italian, Indian and local foods are available. The game store is excellent. You can find locally developed games there. The university is awesome. Beautiful landscape and facilities. You must spend a week or more to explore the city. Highly recommended.
