Stunning landscapes, remote communities, and a unique pioneering history create a diverse and exhilarating destination to explore. A thriving, spirited outback centre, Alice Springs is as famous for the personality of its locals and contemporary and traditional art as the natural wonders, including the stunning Larapinta Trail and the MacDonnell Ranges, which surround it.
We've got tickets for a billion-star experience, keen?! An easy day trip from #AliceSprings, Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve is renowned for its sandstone bluffs and cliffs with different bands of coloured rock. Best accessed by a four-wheel drive vehicle, this lesser known geological wonder is particularly stunning in the early morning light or late afternoon sun when it changes from ochre red to orange and purple.
However, if you're staying overnight in the campground, make sure you stick your head out of the tent during the night - with no artificial light nearby, you'll be able to see the stars like never before ✨ Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @carmenhuter! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT Just a hop, skip and a jump from #AliceSprings, you'll find our outback version of a 'beach' - Ormiston Gorge! Out of all the gaps and gorges in the West MacDonnell Ranges, it has to be one of the most impressive 😍Comprised of orange and red quartzite, and formed by massive geological forces, it's not your typical swimming spot...
but that's what makes it so special! With summer fast approaching, we'll be grabbing a picnic rug and our bathers and heading here - you can even pick up a coffee from the kiosk. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @savvy_social. #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT Free camping at its finest 👌 The West MacDonnell National Park/Tjoritja stretches 161km west of #AliceSprings and will win you over with it's magnificent natural beauty.
The ancient rolling mountain ranges are not only an incredible example of erosion and time, they're also home to a number of scenic gorges and swimming holes. If you're keen to explore in true outback-style, there are camp sites scattered throughout the national park with varying facilities - not to mention some of the best views you'll ever see!
Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @rachelgrixti. #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT It's not hard to see why the Rim Walk at #KingsCanyon is one of the most famous walks in the Red Centre! The six kilometre circuit walk traces the rim of the canyon for much of the hike before descending into the lush 'Garden of Eden' and back up to the top again.
Located in Watarrka National Park, roughly halfway between #Uluru and #AliceSprings, Kings Canyon is one of the many must-do stops along the iconic Red Centre Way drive route. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @danarosalie! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT Glow and behold.... the stunning sandstone walls at Standley Chasm are lit up an hour either side of noon by the reflecting sunlight, creating a breathtaking display of rich colour 🙌 The easy 20 minute walk to the chasm takes you through a lush gully, dotted with ancient ferns and cycads that have survived in the shadow of the arid hills from a long-gone wetter age.
Located just 40 minutes from #AliceSprings, it's one of the many stops along the West MacDonnell Ranges - central @australia’s adventure mecca. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @kalebamosphoto! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT Redbank Gorge is one of those unexpected outback places that we promise you'll go home raving about!
Less than two hours' drive west of #AliceSprings, the gorge sits at the base of Mount Sonder, the fourth highest mountain in the NT. Take the two kilometre return walk from the car park along the creek bed to the gorge where you'll find a permanent waterhole - a refuge for many animal and plant species. Over the summer months many travellers like to take a li-lo or tyre tube and float through the narrow chasm - you'll feel like you've entered a secret place hidden from the rest of the world! Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @koojo.
#SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT #Netflix and chill, NT style 🙌 This sweet set-up was created by @elisecook who recently road-tripped from #Darwin to #AliceSprings.
Following the trail blazed in the 1860's by the first explorers to successfully cross @Australia from north to south, you'll be driving past striking natural wonders, historic outback pubs and towns brimming with culture and activity. On your travels you’ll hit the Territory’s star attractions, including World Heritage-listed Uluru and Kata Tjuta, spectacular Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge and the waterfalls and waterholes of Litchfield National Park.
As far as road-trips go, they don't get much better than this one! Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, Elise. #SeeAustralia It's found on postcards and in paintings, and if the light is right when you visit, it takes your breath away... yep, we're talking about Ormiston Gorge. Out of all the gaps and gorges in the West MacDonnell Ranges, it has to be one of the most impressive 💛 Whilst the gorge is famous for its waterhole, one of the other very special things about this place is that it showcases the spectacular geology and landforms of the area.
Ormiston, along with Ellery Creek Big Hole, is a popular spot for outback swimming, hiking and camping, and is located an easy hour and half drive west of #AliceSprings. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @iiiiiona! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT Twinkle, twinkle, little star... how bright you are in the Red Centre! Ellery Creek Big Hole, only an hours' drive from #AliceSprings, offers the perfect combo: epic scenery and a great spot for a dip! With little to no light pollution in the area, you can pitch your tent in the nearby campground and see the stars like you've never seen them before ✨ Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @nickjoyce_.
