MURRAY ST. CHARCUTERIE Meat reigns supreme at this ultra-Canadian Ottawa restaurant, where the Saturday and Sunday brunch are a major hit with locals. Among the best dishes: The Potaco (pulled pork, baked beans, cheddar and sour cream in potato pancake shell) and the Pauly-D (house-made sausage, cheddar French toast, fried egg, and garlic maple syrup)—all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Baked goods are stacked with stylish precision over a deli cooler that houses trays of sandwiches. The popular brioche comes in unique flavour combinations, such as dates and bacon topped with an orange glaze. The Dutch Baby—a concoction of dough, pork, cheddar, apple and maple syrup—is a game changer.
Chez Edgar, 60 rue Bégin, Gatineau, 819-205-1110, THE URBAN PEAR This restaurant’s Sunday brunch menu changes regularly, using the best Ottawa-area ingredients the chefs can source.
During the summer months, a team of dedicated organic farmers supply the restaurant with its produce, and all the meat and fish come from Canadian farms and waters. On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas. Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks.
Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival. The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife. Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.
The city is pretty and attractively situated but there is not a whole lot to do there if u r looking for a city break. People r universally friendly and helpful and the National Gallery of Art is certainly worth a visit. If u like shopping there is plenty for retail therapy seekers. Lots of ethnic food available too. Great sites to see. Would have loved to have more time to walk around parliament hill, war memorial etc.
Traffic was light even during rush hour. Stayed in Orléans and went to the hockey game in Kanata. Some complain about the distance but it was not bad at all.
Ate in Kanata off Terry Fox drive, tons of options and non were too busy.
