We arrived about 20 mins early for our 6:30 reservation we checked in and was told to hang out at the bar to be seated We walk to the bar where the girl was standing to seat us . she went back to the stand and came back and said follow her..
We started following her passing I don’t know how many empty tables to be seated all the way in the back of the restaurant on the outside patio..
I advised the girl I wasn’t comfortable with the seating being outside and at very tiny table. We then returned back to the front of the host stand for the now (manager)Karin to now reseat us, Karin did not mention who she was Karin started walking us towards a empty table that was a booth for Two but then continued to walk pass the booth to the same exact type of tiny table that wasn’t comfortable for my 6’3 husband and myself which was not private and was very close to another party!
(Mind you the restaurant was fairly empty) I then told Karin that this table wasn’t a good option for us either and pointed at the empty little cozy booth that she directly walk past.
I said can we please sit here instead this would be much better for my husband and I and we’re here celebrating his bday and our 10 year anniversary, this table could work for us.
Oh why did I ask her that! Karin went off on me. No you can not sit there! These tables are for larger parties and there are more people coming into the restaurant in the next 30 to 45 mins that needs to sit there.
I said to Karin there’s a couple sitting in the next booth right next to us, I looked around and seen another pair of two ppl sitting in the other booth table to the other side of the empty booth What’s the problem ? Karin lost it at that moment she said “NO YOU CAN NOT SIT HERE! OTHER PEOPLE ARE ON THEIR WAY TO THE RESTAURANT AND YOU CANT SIT HERE BECAUSE WE NEED THIS TABLE FOR LARGER PARTIES”.
I then told Karin I really don’t see what the big deal is when we’re here now and the table is open and empty right now. Karin then proceeds to get condescending with me and say “YOU DONT KNOW HOW TABLES ARE RAN THERES NOTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU, WE’VE ALREADY TOOK YOU TO TWO TABLES AND YOU DONT WANT TO SIT AT ANY OF THEM! THOSE 2 TABLES ARE YOUR ONLY OPTION!THERES NOTHING I CAN DO!”I then asked for a manager because Karin was really going back and forth with me being really rude and arrogant about the open table Karin then stated I am the manager!
I need someone above you I replied to her. I then told her I’m not going to sit at the small little tiny table that you chose for us! Its tight and not private we’re here trying to celebrate my husbands bday and would really like to sit here.. the two tables you chose for us are very cramped and small and are too close to the other guest. She then continued to go off and then said stated go stand by the bar and I’ll try to find you something better.. Karin basically said you have to be white to sit at these type of tables.
We see Karin talking with another guy who looks like he also was a manager on duty (even though she lied and said she was the only one there and no one was above her). She had no intentions on getting us sat at a better table or the booth table.
Jeff then came over and said there’s nothing we can do for you, those Two tables are your only option! Like what! Are you kidding me?! Can you believe that!! I asked Jeff what’s the real problem here?! Why can we not sit at that empty table over there? Is it because we’re “BLACK” Jeff had the nerves to say he was black too( which he wasn’t) and not mention why we could not sit there! OMG! My husband had had it at the point and was about to go off of Jeff! I then told my husband to calm down as we both then decided to leave.
We wasn’t feeling it Never got to try the food just got pushed around and pushed out of the restaurant! We’re coming to spend our money and celebrate our anniversary and my husbands bday and that’s how we were treated! Racism And discrimination at its finest. The host/ess staff weren't horrible, but they weren't great, either.
They were very preoccupied and it wasn't a busy night (early on Monday). Super disappointing. However, the waitstaff (guys in particular) were great. So was the food. From the delicious sashimi in a truffle sauce to the sushi rolls, seafood tower and Brussels sprouts. Yum! Super fresh seafood and the small seafood tower was plenty for two.
It includes two types of ceviche, an assortment of oysters, raw clams (which is pretty tough to find out west), lobster, king crab, large shrimp and mussels. The bus boy was a little too quick to take away our dishes and drinks before we were finished. The atmosphere is great, but the music is loud, so be prepared to talk at full voice! All-in-all, a great scene and great food. There is a pretty big bar and they make really good cocktails.
I was glad I went on a Monday, although I'll be going again on a weekend. There is a lot of room for seating and valet parking that's about $12 plus tip. Metered street parking is tough to find. Just returned from our week long trip to LA. My buddy who is in the entertainment industry suggested Catch, as it was my gf’s birthday and I wanted some place nice but also a great atmosphere.
Catch hit it out of the park! First and foremost the service and hospitality from everyone was on point. From the door staff, to the hostess, to our server, to the bartenders while waiting on our table.
We enjoyed every aspect of Catch. Living in Chicago, we expect great food for what we pay for, and catch is no exception! Certainly made my girlfriends birthday. Not to mention there was an A list celebrity who won an academy award a few tables over, and one of the hottest rappers our right now bumped into me when we were leaving.
He was extremely nice about it, as it was on accident. Pleasant surprise while visiting, you just never know who you might bump into. AMAZING atmosphere with a lovely view, we will definitely be stopping back on our next visit to LA LA land! The beautiful people are all here. Having said that the food is even better! Fresh, well presented and less pretentious than the customers!
The server we had, Samantha was enthusiastic and gave great recommendations about what to order. Allergies were dealt with in a professional manner.
The mushroom spaghetti app did not disappoint. Filet was tender and flavourful. Sushi rolls rivaled my fav sushi place!
