When a violent bank robbery leads Brenda's prime suspect to flee to Atlanta, Brenda and Fritz find themselves houseguests in her parents home, where Brenda finds herself torn between duty to job and family. Brenda trying to figure out how Bob Michaels wound up dead Funny, but the key to solving this murder revolves around pepper spray. As Brenda's lawyer Mark Pellegrino goes to court for her, Brenda turns to a businessman Jason George for help in cracking the murder case. The mother has released the body to the medical school she attends, where Brenda finds her performing an autopsy, which reveals that the surgeon never closed the artery he claimed he repaired. Now Brenda and the Priority Homicide Division not only have to find the killer, but also the real identity of the victim.

Brenda and the team must deal with the girlfriend, who turns out to be an illusionist with an interest in diamonds and deadly motives of her own. Johnson gets him to confess, then leaves him in general population, where he is brutalized by other prisoners, leading Stimple to commit suicide before more beatings see. But when the evidence from the sting is stolen and the husband is murdered, things get complicated for Flynn and Provenza. Flynn, as they stand united against Capt. Brenda realizes she would rather take down Stroh and lose her career than let him go free and continue dealing with bad men every day.
